Multi-Session Root Canal Treatments

Multi-Session Root Canal Treatments
Infections that develop in the roots and canals of teeth sometimes extend beyond the root canals and spread to surrounding tissues, causing various manifestations. In such cases, to prevent the spread of these bacterial infections and protect the remaining tissues, single-session root canal treatments cannot achieve the desired oral health, and multiple-session root canal treatments are preferred.
What is Multi-Session Root Canal Treatment?
Because oral bacteria can reach the vascular and nerve bundles of teeth through various routes, infecting them and surrounding tissues, multiple-session root canal treatments are performed to preserve teeth and prevent the spread of existing infection. With multiple-session root canal treatments, various medications and specialized technologies such as lasers can be successfully applied to the tooth and, in some cases, the surrounding tissues. Because the infection can spread to surrounding tissues and persist in the root canals for extended periods, completing the treatment in a single session is insufficient.
When can multiple-session root canal treatments be performed?
Multi-session root canal treatments can be performed in cases where the infection in the tooth canal has spread to the surrounding tissues, when there are anatomically different teeth that cannot be completed in a single session, when opening the mouth is difficult in the presence of joint disorders, when there is infection in teeth that have lost their vitality, or when re-infection develops in teeth that have not healed sufficiently.
What are the advantages of multi-session root canal treatments?
This allows for shorter treatment sessions. Root canal infection can be better cleared, allowing for more controlled and planned treatments.
How Are Multi-Session Root Canal Treatments Performed?
The patient’s history is evaluated, followed by a clinical examination and X-rays to verify the suitability of the treatment. After the necessary information is provided, local anesthesia is applied to the affected tooth. Rubber dam isolation methods prevent contact between the affected tooth and bacteria in the oral environment and other teeth. This improves the field of view, and the canals are examined in greater detail with the help of special glasses and magnifying glasses. Decayed and unsupported tissue on the teeth is removed using laser technology or hand instruments, and the infected vascular and nerve bundles in the root canals are removed. The remaining infected tissue and root canals are disinfected using specialized solutions, hand instruments, and technology-assisted applications such as lasers. The canals are then examined with specialized instruments, dried and disinfectant medications are placed in the root canals, and the tooth surfaces are sealed with temporary fillings or dentures. At the next appointment, the infection level in the teeth is checked, and the treatment is completed by replacing the temporary solutions and fillings with permanent root canals and dental fillings. The restoration that best protects the teeth in the future is selected, and it is recommended that clinicians follow the following information and follow up with routine dental checkups.
What are Prepless Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are known as prepless veneers or pre-cut laminates. They can be applied to healthy tooth tissue without any modifications to the tooth surface. These treatments cover only the front surface of the teeth and are preferred for their very natural and aesthetic appearance. They are aesthetic procedures that provide excellent results in closing gaps, correcting tooth discoloration and deformities, and completing smile design. Porcelain veneers are custom-made and can be applied to the tooth surface using compatible materials without damaging the teeth.
Are Uncut Veneers and Laminate Veneers Different?
Both methods allow for the application of aesthetic laminates to the front surfaces of teeth, while prepless veneers do not require any prior etching. Porcelain veneers are applied directly to the tooth surface and can be removed to restore the original appearance if desired. Laminate veneers, on the other hand, require pre-application preparation and are applied after a minimal etching of the tooth surface. If removed, a new restoration is necessary. Prepless veneers require less processing time and fewer sessions, allowing for quicker smile design.
How to Perform Cutless Laminate Applications?
During the clinical examination, teeth requiring treatment are identified. Oral health and the harmony of surrounding tissues are examined, and digital measurements are taken using 3D scanners. Photographs and X-rays are also taken to verify the patient’s age, gender, facial shape, and skin tone. The ideal smile design is determined in a computerized format. A simulation of the final appearance is reviewed with the dentist before application, and the measurements are transferred digitally to the laboratory. In the next session, the veneers are first tried on and then applied to the front surfaces of the teeth with biocompatible adhesives that do not harm the teeth.
What Should You Know After Applying Uncut Laminates?
Thanks to their ease of application and adaptable structure, patients can return to their social lives immediately after the procedure. There is no sensitivity or pain. There is no need to change their usual oral care routine of brushing and flossing. Because prepless veneers have a natural tissue transition and blend seamlessly with the surrounding tissue, they allow for easy oral and dental cleaning. Regular attendance at follow-up appointments and regular maintenance of the restorations increase the lifespan of these prosthetics.
